Hanri Ehlers

Hanri Ehlers grew up on Goedgedacht, a farm near Delmas in Mpumalanga, South Africa. She obtained her LLB degree cum laude from the University of Pretoria in 2009 and was named one of Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans in 2011. She was also part of the Global Shapers, an initiative of the World Economic Forum.

With her passion for people, food, community, and her energetic spirit, Hanri also appeared in Season 2 of Die Brug on kykNET. After nine years in Botswana, where she ran her own restaurant, she returned to her roots and today farms alongside her father, Johan Ehlers, and brother, Johan Ehlers, on Goedgedacht, where she leads the Ehlerskroon Bonsmara herd. She is an avid and accomplished lawn bowls player and serves as president of the Delmas Bowls Club.

Hanri is like an onion — a person with many layers. She is simultaneously gentle and strong, creative and artistic, worldly yet deeply rooted in farm life, with a heart that shines through in every recipe, every dish, every story, and every cup of coffee.

She is an entrepreneur, restauranteur, and master barista who believes that food, like life itself, looks most beautiful, smells its best, and tastes its finest when prepared and shared with great love and good conversation.
